Having had so much rain since the beginning of the year it is lovely to wake up to the sun shining at last! We have had a busy few weeks maintaining the grounds and gardens, planting vegetable seeds and even hatching duck eggs! Unfortunately our one little hatcher didn't survive, but did put up quite a fight for 5 days. He was late in hatching and did struggle to get out of his shell. One of his feet was a little mishapen too, so I think nature took it's course.
On a brighter note my 2 chickens that were attacked by a fox seem to have made a full recovery. We have started (and nearly finished!) lambing for this year. So far we have had 10 lambs and we are just waiting for the final 2 ewes to lamb. Fortunately, so far, we have had no signs of the Schmallenberg disease that seems to be taking over the country. We are waiting with a bit of apprehension for our final 2 ewes to give birth.
I have managed to get a bit more organised this year and have planted some of seeds ready to be transplanted into the polytunnel when the weather gets a few degrees warmer. I have planted some potatoes straight into the ground in the polytunnel, but so far no signs of life!
