Winding down for winter

I can't tell you where the past 2 months have gone since I last posted on my blog! We did manage to get away for the first time in over a year. A friend came down to look after the farm and cottages for a long weekend whilst we went to Majorca to attend a friend's wedding.  It was lovely, both to get away and also to get back! Everything went quite smoothly here we think although there were a couple of incidents involving escaped sheep and chickens - all back present and correct now!
The vegetable patch hasn't really amounted to much at all this year - very disappointing, but at least our livelihood doesn't depend on it unlike some. The tomatoes and chilliles in the polytunnel have done the best and I have made some amazing Hot chilli jam which has proved a hit with my husband and our guests alike.
The cottages are still nice and busy thoroughout October, being full for the next 3 weeks is great. November and December go a bit quite but we are busy again for Christmas and New Year, with 4 out of the 6 cottages booked.
The new few weeks will, weather permitting, involve us getting the gardens and grounds ready for winter, including clearing the vegetable patch and polytunnel and looking at what to plant for the spring.
